What causes a hearing aid to whistle?
All properly working hearing aids will whistle. It is sometimes used as a quick check to see if the aid is working. It's caused from the sound that has already been amplified getting back to the microphone so that the aid will try to amplify it again. Sound leaking out of the ear while the aid is being worn can cause unwanted feedback or whistling.
How can I stop my hearing aid from whistling?
This can be done by creating a tighter seal in the ear, so that sound does not get back to the microphone. A larger size tip or a custom made ear piece may help. Or with vented hearing aids the vent may be partially or completely
sealed up to stop the sound from leaking out of the ear.
Also some aids will have a high frequency trimmer. adjusting this to trim highs may help stop feedback since high frequencies tend to feed back quicker than lower frequencies.
How do I know how much power I need?
If
you can still hear well on the phone you probably have what we call a mild to moderate loss in the ear. If you don't get along well on the phone or you have to use an amplifier, chances are your loss is in the severe range.
How different are peoples hearing losses?
Each persons hearing is individual. Even those with good hearing hear slightly differently from one another. Hearing losses fall into general categories. Most people have more loss in the higher frequencies than the lower ones. Often this is evident in being able to hear men better than women. Our 45 day trial will assure you of being happy with your hearing aid selection.
How do I know which hearing aid is best for me?
The best way to obtain information on any Siemens hearing aids is through your Hearing Care Professional. Your provider will determine which hearing aid is best for you based upon your audiological results, as well as your input regarding listening environments, lifestyle and hearing needs. In some cases, a variety of styles and technology may be appropriate, while certain types of hearing loss and hearing needs may dictate one particular style or type of technology. Your provider will explain your options and help you select which may be best for you.
Will hearing aids restore my hearing?
Your hearing improvement with any hearing aid depends on the fit of the hearing aid, the type of degree of your hearing loss, and proper diagnostic testing. Of course, no hearing aid can restore normal hearing, and not everyone can benefit equally.
